This is a book that was difficult for me to put down! I loved how everything was so well described - it was easy to paint of a picture of how each character looked in my head, and I found myself easily drawn into their lives. Once I finished, I found myself ready for the next book. Matthews is a skilled writer, and I can't wait to read more.
Finished it this morning; I got so sucked in I read it in two days. It's not an easy story to describe; adventure? romance? Whatever it is, I enjoyed it immensely. I found myself really engaged with the development of her character and their dynamic, and it was so refreshing to have it couched in such realistic and familiar sense of bdsm community. It was nice not to find myself rolling my eyes at inaccurate depictions of kink. I loved all the focus on communication and negotiation; it felt authentic, and it was something I identified with emotionally in a way I don't with more "fantastical" kink fantasies. I found it very hot, but also really engagingly thinky. I think I was particularly impressed to get so pulled in because I pretty emphatically don't identify as submissive, myself. It's rare for me to feel the appeal of submission this viscerally.
This isn't a guidebook; it's a fun story. Still, it's not a bad way to taste what authentic kink might be like, and feel the link between communication and emotional connection.
Love the realism andconnection between characters. I felt like I had been in a helluva scene and needed aftercare by the end--- in the best possible ways!
